Welcome to the Institute of Management of Sri Lanka

Institute of Management of Sri Lanka (IMSL) is the national apex body in the field of professional management in Sri Lanka, dedicated to promoting professional management in the country. IMSL was inaugurated on 31st July 1986 and was incorporated by Act of Parliament No. 67 on 17th December 1988. Today, IMSL is a full member of the Asian Association of Management Organizations (AAMO), as Sri Lanka’s sole representative in AAMO.

The Institute is administered by a President, Four Vice Presidents, A Secretary an Assistant Secretary, a Treasurer and Committee of 15 members of which 3 members represent the affiliated Institutions and Organizations of this Institute. Such Members are duly elected at an Annual General Meeting. They constitute the Council of the Institute.

IMSL NATIONAL MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE 2016 WAS HELD UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF PRESIDENT OF SRI LANKA

The inaugural ceremony of the National Management Conference 2016 organized by the Institute of Management of Sri Lanka (IMSL) was held under the patronage of President of Sri Lanka His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo on 08 November, 2016.  Minister of Public Enterprises Development, Eran Wickramaratne graced this occasion as the Guest of honour and key note speaker.
 
This year’s Conference was held under the theme “Resolving Contemporary Management Challenges”.  The National Management Conference is an Annual event organized by the Institute of Management of Sri Lanka (IMSL) with the key objective of facilitating informed discussion and consultation on a contemporary management topic of national interest. The National Management Conference 2016 was held for the 17th time bringing together management practitioners, professionals, academics, students and leaders from the public and corporate sector to a common platform of sharing and learning, through the Conference theme.
 
Following the key note, two panel discussions were held with the eminent academics and professionals in the industry and academia. The first session was focused on “Managing in turbulent times: Ensuring a Macro-Micro Balance” and the panel was Chaired by Dr. Saman Kalagama Director – Institute of Policy Studies, Chairman Singer Sri Lanka. Other panellists were Dr. Trevor Mendis, Senior Consultant Postgraduate Institute of Management, Dr. (Mrs.) Ramani Gunatilaka, University of Colombo, Ms. Samadanie Kiriwandeniya, Chairperson, Sanasa Development Bank, and Mr. Sutheash Balasubramaniam Managing Partner, Sri Lanka at SSA Business Solutions (Pvt) Ltd.
 
The second session was concentrated about “Fusion: The future of management” which was chaired by Dr. Asoka Jinadasa, and the panellists were Mr. Rohantha Athukorala, Chairman Lanka Sathosa, Mr. W.K.H. Wegapitiya Group Chairman, Laugfs Holdings Ltd, Dr.  Dayan Rajapakshe, Chairman, ESOFT and Mr. Ravi Jayawardena – CEO (Sales & Marketing) of Maliban Biscuits Manufactories (Pvt) Ltd. Concluding the NMC 2016 Valedictory was delivered by Mr. Samantha Rathnayake, Management Consultant, Postgraduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. 
 

 

 

SRI LANKA TEAM NOMINATED FOR THE ASIAN MANAGEMENT GAME (AMG) 2016

The Institute of Management of Sri Lanka is proud to announce the five member team selected to participate at the Asian Management Game 2016. Five undergraduates who are reading for the Bachelor of Business Administration at Faculty of Management and Finance of University of Colombo will be representing Sri Lanka at the Asian Management Game 2016 under the code name “The Team Synergy”. Mr. Ruzni Faik, Ms. Nilukshi Jayawardena, Mr. Praveen Fernando, Mr. Supun Walpola and Ms. Ruvini Avanthi Perera will be contesting under the guidance of IMSL President Maj. General Upul Perera, along with two lecturers at Faculty of Management and Finance of University of Colombo, Ms. Thilini Alahakoon, Ms. Ganga Fernando.

The Asian Management Game (AMG) is one of the annual activities of Asian Association of Management Organisations (AAMO) which aims at connecting different management organizations in the Asian Pacific region. This competition which has been run for almost two decades, has successfully served as a platform for our young executives to learn and exchange from each other. Institute of Management of Sri Lanka (IMSL) as the National Management Organization representing country nominated a team from Sri Lanka.

The champion team in the final round will be sponsored a free trip to Macau and join young managers from other AAMO countries for a study visit tentatively to Hong Kong in November 2016. 

 

 

IMSL LAUNCHES “SRI LANKA MANAGEMENT NEWS” QUARTERLY MAGAZINE 

We are pleased to announce the launch of “SRI LANKA MANAGEMENT NEWS” [SMN] the official quarterly magazine of The Institute of Management of Sri Lanka (IMSL). The objective of publishing this magazine would be sharing of information about the activities of the Institute and to provide a platform to publish various articles related to management discipline.
 
In this issue you will find a news coverage on the 36th Annual General Meeting of IMSL, a flashback of IMSL Public Lecture Series, a report on AAMO’s Young Managers Programme and participation of Sri Lanka, an overview to Asian Association of Management Organizations, a special note about the Founder President of IMSL, write ups on Accounting as a Social Practice, and Emotional Intelligence: An effective Workplace Stress Reliever along with messages from the President and Immediate Past President.
